As Clinical Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology (University of Auckland), I have been lecturing and teaching skills in caring for cataract and cornea patients to undergraduates and postgraduates in both ophthalmology and optometry. Dozens of lectures at prestigious international scientific meetings.

“We have hand assembled a team of the finest ophthalmic professionals in the country and created Re:Vision to revolutionize the delivery of eye care. My team and I love what we do. And when you love what you do, you can’t help being very, very good at it. Patients immediately see the difference. Our positivity, attention to detail and safety, and true caring.”

Dr Gray received triple-Fellowship training at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and Bascom Palmer Eye Hospital, Miami before returning to Auckland 20+ years ago.

Dr Gray has performed over 40,000 major ophthalmic surgery cases in his 20+ year career. He has performed more than 16,000 laser vision correction procedures, 22,000 cataract surgeries, and 1,800 implantable contact lenses (ICLs). He is the most experienced LASIK surgeon now providing this sight—and life—changing service to patients across New Zealand.

20 years of Auckland Public Hospital service. As a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland, Dr Gray has been passing his eye-care skills to students in both ophthalmology and optometry for more than 20 years, having taught more than 50 ophthalmologists-in-training the art of modern cataract corneal transplant surgery. He has presented dozens of lectures at prestigious international scientific meetings.

In addition to his work as a clinician and academician, Dr Gray is passionate about serving the public more broadly. His past charitable endeavours include establishing his Buchanan Charitable Foundation in 2010. This Foundation has established the Buchanan Ocular Therapeutics Unit in the University of Auckland, funds ongoing private education of underprivileged girls and boys in NZ, supports the only cataract mission hospital in Swaziland, major funder of DreamWorker organisation in Cape Town helping the unemployed to get a leg up. He is excited to be developing—in concert with Re:Vision’s partner institution Aotearoa Charity Hospital (ARCH) —a new charitable cataract service for New Zealanders who have been denied access to needed cataract surgery by the public hospital system. He and his colleagues are also providing pro bono laser vision correction for tetraplegic patients.

Trevor is married to Caroline (they met at UCT Medical School). Caroline is a Breast Physician, mother and life-partner extraordinaire. Together, they have two of the coolest ‘kids’ – now young married adults starting their own families; and two of the most adorable grand-daughters. Home is completed with Archie the Schnauzer and Freddie the Dachshund – a busy and friendly pair! As a family, they love the outdoors with a passion for water-sports: paddleboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, hiking and a Sunday drive in a 1960 cool classic convertible.
